The photos in the section below are of me working as an illustrator in a sequence of different cities—Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto and New York City. The top image was taken in 1973, my first commercial art position at a Vancouver Design Studio. I was first hired to illustrate color City Character maps for a series of Canadian and of American cities. The job involved researching each city by visiting, photographing and making sketches and notes on location.

My IllustrationBackground…

Originally from Vancouver, Canada, I started my career as an illustrator in Vancouver after completing a BA in Fine Arts from from the University of British Columbia and attending the Vancouver School of Art, where I studied photography.

I have worked as a graphic designer in New York city since 1985 specializing in branding, print brochures, editorial design and web design. In the past several years I rediscovered my passion for illustration and started painting in watercolors, capturing the scenes around my neighborhood—Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. Many of the watercolor paintings on this website include the beach and the ocean, others are scenes of New York landscapes and gardens, flowers, birds and boats and the water’s edge. The paintings are expressed in bright colors and are painted with a fluid brush style.

Prior to moving to New York City, I worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto.
I was formerly the Managing Editorial Art Director at The Globe and Mail in Toronto, Canada.
I have dual citizenship—Canadian and Irish—and can work in Canada and Europe, as well as the USA.
